The Bailey HUNDO: The Senator's Invitational
An Epic Race Making An Epic DifferenceNo Legacy Code? NO WORRIES!
The Bailey HUNDO is an Invitational, but we are accepting Applications for ~100 spots open to racers NEW to the race in 2012. Please check the "I am applying for the event” box as you follow the registration process. Returning legacy racers from the 2011 HUNDO can enter the legacy code they received in their email.
About Mission: The Bailey HUNDO—a not-for-profit event—is a world-class 100-mile endurance mountain bike race that starts and ends in Bailey, Colorado. Money raised by the HUNDO is invested in youth biking initiatives in Colorado, and used to build new trails in the Platte Canyon area that both serve the local community's recreation needs and develop Bailey into a mountain biking destination??.
About Bailey: Located less than an hour from Denver, and less than an hour and a half from Boulder, Bailey offers unparalleled access to single track trails—both the Buffalo Creek Trail System, and the Colorado Trail are easily accessible from the heart of Bailey. About the Route: Starting from the heart of Bailey, the race features over 40 miles of singletrack—more in 2011 than in 2010—as it winds from Bailey through the Buffalo Creek Trail system and along the Colorado Trail to the South Platte to Deckers up Stony Creek Pass to Wellington Lake, and back to Bailey!??
About the 2010 HUNDO: The Bailey HUNDO was created out of a partnership between four State Senators—State Senator Chris Romer (now a VP of Development and Educational Partnerships at Community College of Denver), State Senator Greg Brophy (SD-1), State Senate Minority Leader Mike Kopp (SD-22, recently resigned), and State Senator Mark Scheffel (SD-4, recently elected Minority Caucus Chair)—and the communities of Bailey, Park County, and Colorado cyclists. In the first year in 2010, the HUNDO attracted 150 racers, including some of the top mountain bike racers in the world: Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski, Dave Weins and Soyna Looney.
About the 2011 HUNDO: For our second year, the USFS generously increased our permit to allow for 250 select riders to enjoy the HUNDO, and it made for another huge success! The top of the Women's Open podium was again graced by Sonya Looney of Team Topeak/Ergon, while up-and-comer Colin Cares took the overall and Men's Open win. Due to the generosity of racers and their friends and families, as well as some key sponsors, the HUNDO was able to donate over $40,000 to its nonprofit and community partners!?
About 2012 HUNDO: Now in our third yea, the Bailey HUNDO is poised for even more exciting racing and meaningful fundraising! If you raced last year, we hope you return! If you are new to the HUNDO, we strongly encourage you to apply.
The 2012 Bailey HUNDO is a donation-based event, with a $250 minimum funds raised to race, and 10% down up-front as your application fee ($25). For every additional $250 raised, you will unlock new premiums! All donations are tax deductible and all donations--minus race costs--will be allocated to further the mission of the Bailey HUNDO.
Join us. Be a part of an epic race making an epic difference.

This year’s beta ride is organized as a partnership between four of Colorado’s finest State Senators—Senator Chris Romer, Senator Mark Scheffel, Senator Mike Kopp, and Senator Greg Brophy—as well as the Platte Canyon Chamber of Commerce and the Colorado Mountain Biking Association (COMBA). The race will be sponsored, in part, by the Platte Canyon Cycling Club, Outpost Wilderness Adventures, Wheat Ridge Cyclery, Team Evergreen Cycling Club and Racing Team, and many other generous folks!
Extremely fun first 60 miles, last 25 miles to the finish were pretty brutal!
